Every weekend during March, Clarice, a cashier at Menards, puts together a display of food items (including complete meal suggestions for under $2) at her register to sell to customers so they have an easy way to donate to Neighbors, Inc. during Minnesota FoodShare. The donation bins are located at the end of the register aisle, so she encourages people, especially kids, to carry their donation directly to the bin. She loves it when the kids are allowed to pick out the items to donate. (In her own life, she tried to teach her children the lesson of giving to others by bringing them to the store with their Christmas lists in hand to pick out – and then donate – the #1 item on their list to children less fortunate, knowing she had already purchased the same item for her children.) Clarice also loves to see generosity spread. “When there is a line at my register, people start feeding off each other and if one person buys, it encourages more to buy and pretty soon the whole line has bought something (to donate.)” The generosity must have been contagious because over 2,900 pounds of food was donated during their recent food drive by Menards customers. Justin, the assistant store manager, credits their successful donation drives to their “great” and “supportive customers.” Thank you, Menards!
