WANTED: COATS IN THE MOAT

Winter Carnival Royal Family Members to Spend the Night in the Ecolab Ice Palace in Rice Park to Encourage Cold-Weather Gear Donations to Neighbors, Inc.

Who: The Lord of the Queen (2018 Queen of Snows Jill Nadimi’s boyfriend) Charlie Lehnen and Danny Maslowski, a 2018 member of the King’s Guard

What: These two members of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival Royal Family will spend the evening and early morning on the balcony of the Ecolab Ice Palace in Rice Park.

The purpose: To raise awareness of a cold-weather gear collection drive taking place in the Ecolab Ice Palace’s “moat” through the end of the festival (Saturday, February 10).

Organizers of the drive are encouraging the public to bring donations of new or gently-used coats, hats, mittens and boots to Rice Park and place them in a 2019 Dodge Ram pick-up, courtesy of Fury Motors.

The items will be collected and distributed by Neighbors, Inc., a non-profit, social-service agency serving communities in northern Dakota County.

The collection drive was the brainchild of the newly-crowned 2018 King Boreas Tom Leonard. Leonard is a co-owner of Fury Motors in South Saint Paul.

Gertens Outdoor is loaning cold-weather camping gear to the chilly charitable effort.

When: Wednesday, February 7 at 7 p.m. through Thursday, February 8 at 8 a.m.

Where: Ecolab Ice Palace presented by Spire Credit Union in Rice Park in Saint Paul
