Minnesota FoodShare Campaign Benefits Neighbors

Annual March Food & Fundraising Drive Helps Stock the Shelves

Donations of food and funds during the month of March are critical to keep the shelves stocked at Neighbors, Inc.

“We count on the generosity of our donors during Minnesota Foodshare in March to help us provide for the hungry all year long. It is a needed boost between times of increased need,” said Susan Schroeder, Director of Mission Fulfillment at Neighbors. One of those increased times of need is in the summer when children are home and parents rely on additional food support to provide meals they would otherwise receive at school. Donations made during March help to keep the shelves stocked at Neighbors throughout the busy summer months.

With generous support from local businesses, faith communities, civic organizations, community members and more, Neighbors hopes to raise a combined total of 325,000 pounds of food or dollars during this year’s campaign to meet the increased demand for food assistance in our community.

Besides keeping the shelves full, March is the designated month when food shelves from across the state engage in a friendly competition to see who can raise the most pounds of food and/or monetary donations. Additional grant money is allocated based on ranking. Overall, the March Campaign helps stock nearly 300 food shelves statewide.

Minnesota FoodShare’s March Campaign is a program of the Greater Minneapolis Community Connections (GMCC). Official dates for this year’s campaign are February 25 to April 7, 2019. For more information or to set-up a collection event, contact Darcy at 651-306-2149.
