What do you see when you look at this picture?

shelfSure, it’s a shelf with produce, but it goes beyond that. Donated by one of our volunteers, it’s also a favorite stop during each shopping visit. Some days – particularly at this time of year – it may be stocked with fresh from the garden vegetables; others it’s bananas, melons and other produce donated by local grocery stores.

At Neighbors, we are able to offer everyone who comes to the food shelf a wide selection of items – including produce, canned goods, milk, eggs, meat, bread and more – and we are grateful to those who help us do so. The shelf pictured above is a prime example and we think it deserves a name!

Starting today through September 25, we’ll be taking suggestions to officially name the shelf. Anyone can submit an idea either in person at the Neighbors office (collection boxes will be available at the front desk and in the food shelf) or online. Then, a committee of staff, volunteer, client and Board representatives will select three finalists. These will be debuted and voting will begin during the Great Neighbors’ Duck Races on Saturday, October 1, during On The Road Again. Voting will continue through October 7 – again either at Neighbors or online – and the winner will be announced shortly thereafter and be awarded a gift certificate to the Clothes Closet.

So, let the naming process begin!
