When you’re ready to buy a house understanding the process and surrounding yourself with a supportive team can make all the difference. The process takes time and having the right people on your team. Neighbors Financial Empowerment is here to help as you take steps forward.

Getting Started – Knowledge is power! Learning about the home buying process will equip you to ask questions and make decisions around your home purchase. Neighbors Financial Counselors can help you learn your credit score, create a savings plan, research neighborhoods, and compare mortgages. We have created a Homeownership Guide to help you get started. Click here to download full guide.

Build Your Team – Neighbors partners with other organizations to help find funding for your purchase. We administer the Family Assets for an Independent Minnesota Program (FAIM) which provides a $3 to $1 match towards a down payment for eligible first-time home buyers. Neighbors Financial Empowerment is also a referring partner for Habitat for Humanity, an organization that provides homes and financing for eligible participants.

Cross the Finish Line – A healthy emergency fund is a critical component often overlooked during the purchase of a home. Moving into a house with a few months of mortgage payments in the bank will help buyers save for unexpected expenses. Neighbors can provide eligible participants with Small Sums Grants to assist with setting up utilities for first-time homebuyers.
